What is an electronic diverter valve?

When you lift off the throttle on a turbocharged engine, the compressed air already in the intake tract has nowhere to go. A diverter valve opens to release it, either back into the intake (recirculating) or out to atmosphere (atmospheric). Without one, that air stalls against a closed throttle plate and back-pressures the turbo. That is compressor surge.

Most aftermarket valves are mechanical: a spring and a diaphragm or piston, actuated by manifold vacuum through a hose. They work, but they depend on plumbing, they respond only as fast as vacuum allows, and on a modern ECU a mechanical valve can upset the readings the engine expects.

The Forge E-DV is different. It uses an integrated electronic pilot valve, taking its signal from the car's own wiring rather than from a vacuum hose. There is no remote solenoid to mount and no vacuum plumbing to route. It plugs into the factory connector and replaces the OEM valve directly.

Atmospheric vs. recirculating, which do you need?

Recirculating (R) returns the released air to the intake, ahead of the turbo. It is the OEM behaviour, it is quiet, and it is the safe default on any car with a mass airflow sensor or a factory tune you want left undisturbed.

Atmospheric (A) vents to the air, which is where the audible release comes from. On a modern ECU that normally causes fuelling and fault code problems. The E-DV's hybrid venting is what lets it vent atmospherically without disrupting OEM ECU control.

Part numbers ending A are atmospheric. Part numbers ending R are recirculating.

Frequently asked questions

Will an E-DV throw a check engine light?

No. The E-DV is designed to avoid triggering engine management light issues, including in atmospheric form. The hybrid venting design vents to atmosphere without disrupting modern OEM ECU control.

Do I need a tune to run one?

No. The E-DV is a direct plug and play replacement for the OEM valve and works with the factory ECU calibration.

Is the atmospheric version loud?

The atmospheric version vents to air, so it is audible on lift-off. The recirculating version returns air to the intake and is quiet, matching OEM behaviour.

What is the difference between the A and R part numbers?

Part numbers ending in A are atmospheric. They vent to the air. Part numbers ending in R are recirculating. They return air to the intake tract.

Does it need vacuum lines or a remote solenoid?
